Melatonin capsules, lozenges & sleeping cocoa, Griffonia seed extracts

Do you have trouble falling asleep? In our December issue, you can find out how melatonin can help you rest in Morpheus' arms. We also point out a regulatory claim for the substance 5-HTP from the Griffonia plant.

Sleep and health

Everyone's need for sleep is different. Some people get by with just five hours of sleep a night for the rest of their lives, while others need ten hours to feel refreshed the next day. According to sleep researchers, seven to eight hours of sleep per night is ideal for the average population. Current studies show that around 43% of Germans suffer from sleep problems. But how do you recognize sleep problems when the individual amount of sleep needed can vary so much? If one or more of the following symptoms occur, this may be an indication of a sleep disorder:

- Lying awake for long periods due to a very long time to fall asleep
- Restless sleep and waking up several times during the night
- Feeling exhausted after getting up and persistent tiredness and difficulty concentrating throughout the day

There are many reasons for sleep disorders, including worry, stress, shift work, alcohol and medical causes (e.g. sleep apnea or taking antidepressants).

The key to sleep

The hormone melatonin plays an important role in healthy sleep. It is produced in the pineal gland of the brain and is responsible for controlling the body's day-night rhythm. As the hormone has a sleep-promoting effect, sleep disorders can occur if melatonin levels are too low.

Sleep products with melatonin are in vogue:. If you take 1 mg of melatonin shortly before going to bed, it helps to shorten the time it takes to fall asleep. Below we present some of our product ideas:

For example, our melatonin capsules. In addition to 1 mg of melatonin in the daily dose, they contain other ingredients that can help you get a good night's sleep, such as magnesium. This helps to reduce tiredness and fatigue, ensuring that you wake up refreshed and alert the next morning. Other ingredients in the capsules are lemon balm leaf powder and passion flower extract. Lemon balm is known to calm the nerves and make it easier to fall asleep due to the essential oils it contains. Passionflower is also said to relieve tension and anxiety and promote sleep.

A pleasant nightcap or sleep to suck on

Did you know that it has been scientifically proven that a fixed ritual before going to bed helps you fall asleep better? Our sleep cocoa combines effect with pleasure. In addition to the classic melatonin, it contains magnesium and glycine to improve recovery. The latter amino acid in particular has a calming effect on the human brain. Components such as the sleeping berry (ashwagandha), lavender and valerian are also used as known substances. Historically, these plants have been important ingredients in many calming and sleep-promoting products. The use of L-tryptophan as a starting material for natural melatonin production in the body rounds off the active concept.

We combine this concentrated package of active ingredients with cocoa powder and delicious flavors to create a tasty nightcap. Imagine drinking a warm and delicious cup of cocoa before going to bed and then drifting off into the land of dreams. The basis for your personal evening ritual has been created!

Our sorbitol melatonin lozenges are particularly suitable for on the go, as you don't need water to take them. Available in apple and cherry flavors, they are pleasantly fruity and, thanks to the sugar substitute sorbitol, are pleasantly sweet and tooth-friendly.

Griffonia seed extracts and novel food

We would also like to use our monthly newsletter to draw your attention to a raw material that is somewhat controversial in legal terms - Griffonia simplicifolia. This is a plant species whose seeds contain the active ingredient 5-hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP). This is said to have a positive effect on mood and sleep. However, 5-hydroxytryptophan itself, as well as all Griffonia simplicifolia extracts that are standardized to contain a certain amount of 5-HTP, are not considered an approved novel food. As a result, only Griffonia raw materials without standardization may be used in food supplements in Europe.
